A footnote to my last post about demographic change and establishment nonchalance. I've found a piece I wrote for the FT in 2012 about the silence that greeted London becoming a majority-minority city
The key point, I feel, is this: my Nigerian wife (born in England in 1966 but brought up in Nigeria (Kemi ripped her off!) came back to England in the early 1980s. As Nigerians were somewhat few in number she had no option but to absorb English culture, so much so that she ended up marrying my good self (see my shameless book plug 'One Love Two Colours: the unlikely marriage of a Punk Rocker & his African Queen'). As a result, she has grown to enjoy English culture as much as her 'own' - apart from the food, obviously...
Her brother, though, who came to England around 12 years ago, has not integrated at all; he has no British friends and lives a Nigerian life in England, much as he would at 'home', albeit without the electricity shortages. This is the crux of the matter and why so many who were born in the UK feel threatened by migrants who self-ghettoise. Such attitudes lead only to fragmentation, chaos and dis-unity. I have to ask, was it worth it?
It would be interesting to know the demographic makeup of white flight from the London/South East.
Since moving to Shrewsbury I've met quite a few white boomers who have moved from the South East, all older. Reasons were varied but generally they are what you cite in terms of a changed cultural environment as a result of mass immigration. This made them feel less safe and generally more alienated with newcomers generally less friendly but included a worsening of public services due to them being overstretched.
I ask about the demographic because all the people I spoke with had owned their own home so were able to cash in the difference between the value of their South East home and property prices here. So financial reasons as they approached their later years seemed to have figured in too.
For them, their quality of life has significantly improved so perhaps a quality of life metric would be a useful way to study white flight which included a sense of community spirit, friendliness, familiar cultural environment, environmental quality like fresh air, quality of public services, safety levels, disposable incomes, etc.
Very interesting. I do remember reading this at the time. If it came out today you would be labelled as 'far right'. Then again, most of us are. Allegedly...

I found it interesting that even someone born in Britain and educated to a high degree such as Ms Sarker, felt she had more in common with migrants of any creed and colour than the majority people of the country of her birth.
I found that very disappointing and it just shows how difficult it is going to be to achieve a cohesive multi ethnic society, let alone a multicultural one.

Having spies within the enemy goes back to ancient times. And we are familiar with the treachery of double agents. but these have always been outliers. The problem is that we are not vetting these people carefully enough, to ensure just which side their loyalties lie.
No it's not "spying" it's using Islamic extremists to murder people in other countries in order to defeat nationalists, socialists and any one who might challenge *private* Western financial interests
Examples? I am not aware of any such policy or activity.
And show some respect when you're talking to people in a public forum. Only children attack the other party in a dialogue, in the illusion that it's an immature game of winners and losers.

When I lived in London I revelled in the cosmopolitan atmosphere of the city and diversity was enriching the community. many immigrants were valuable members of the community who actually adored the 'traditional' British values and were proud to consider themselves loyal British citizens. Indeed any study of the Commonwealth contributions in WWI and WWII confirms that we were all fighting for shared values that extended across the Commonwealth. All this 'colonialism' idiocy is being spread by people wanting to benefit from a widespread victim culture.
And speaking of culture, the change we are seeing this century is that immigrants are no longer seeking to integrate into the British culture, but to aggressively impose the cultures of the failed states friom which they are 'supposedly' fleeing.
Starmer's government is so strongly promoting this that they write off any complaints as racist, when the racial element is, if at all, a tiny fraction of the general repudiation of his policies.
The fact of the matter is you always try to attribute this is to "cultural attitudes" and "political ideas" rather than the raw power of the Western capitalist class and their very many lobby groups at national and international level
